Research Interests:

My research focuses on the effector proteins that plant pathogens secrete to manipulate host cells. Effector genes are specifically induced in planta, though the mechanism by which this occurs remains a mystery. To study this, I employ cell biology and molecular genetic approaches to investigate how effector genes (PWL2, BAS4, etc.) are expressed and regulated during blast infection of rice. My goal is to advance our understanding of effector biology and utilize this knowledge to control blast disease.
