Image: Distinguished Research Professor Lisa Donovan retired after 27 years. The Plant Biology department celebrated Lisa and her many contributions to the department at her retirement party on May 16, 2022. Among her many accomplishments during her time in Plant Biology Lisa served as the department head for 6 years, and as a graduate coordinator. As a founding director she was fundamental in establishing the Integrated Plant Sciences (IPS) program at UGA. From the many stories told at the party it was evident that she has been a model departmental citizen and selfless colleague, a highly effective leader, and a valued scientific collaborator to many. She was lauded for always being willing to help colleagues in need and being a great mentor to junior faculty. Beyond the department Lisa was recognized for her well-known involvement in the Campus Cats organization that provides veterinary care and food for community cats found on campus and around Athens. Campus cats also finds homes for these cats and Lisa is responsible for providing multiple people in the department with their adorable feline companions. We will miss Lisa greatly as an active member of the Department, but Lisa can still be found on campus as an emeritus professor continuing to contribute to Plant Biology research and looking out for the cats. Thank you, Lisa, for your many contributions to UGA Biology and the plant sciences community as a whole!
