The Plant Biology Graduate Student Association (PBGSA) sponsored the "Future Plant Scientist" award at the 2016 Georgia Science and Engineering Fair in Athens. Graduate students judged middle and high school student science fair projects from across the state.

Creative Research Medals are awarded for outstanding research or creative activity within the past five years that focuses on a single theme identified with the University of Georgia.

Somer Rowe is a PBIO undergraduate student conducting research in Dr. Chris Peterson's lab, which focuses on the effects of wind disturbance on the carbon cycle.
